This
simple 2-piece part has a plate and a curved piece. One
angle locates the front curve. Slots in the side of the
large angle allow it to square the back face.
There
are four "loose" pieces to this weldment. They
have been cut on a laser with slots and tabs. Modular
fixturing aligns the sides parallel to each other and
allows for accurate laser welding of the part.
Every
automotive seat starts as a prototype before full
production begins. It is here where details about the
part and the process are learned. Changes are the order
of the day and your fixturing system must be able to respond.
Large angles provide the vertical reach needed to locate
the headrest hardware.
